How to Join
Fill out an application online or stop down to the firehall any Monday night at 7 pm to fill out a paper application and meet with firefighters
Qualifications to become an Eden Firefighter
- You must be at least 18 years of age to apply
- You must possess a valid New York State driver's license or other form of picture ID.
- You must reside within the fire district or within an adjacent fire district
- You must be a citizen of the United States
- You must have no previous felony convictions
- All applicants are subject to an arson and criminal history background check
Firefighter Membership Requirements
- New members will be considered on probation for a minimum of 6 months until certifications are earned
- New members must obtain New York State Certification based on their title: Basic Exterior Firefighting Ops (BEFO) for firefighters, Fire Police for Fire Police or Apparatus Operator for drivers
- New members must obtain a BASIC FIRST AID and CPR certification within the Probationary period.
- Must attend 6 drills (Training) per year (Approximately 3 hours per night)
- Must attend 10% of fire calls per year (we run approximately 150 calls per year)
- Must participate in fundraisers including working during the Corn Festival
- Failure to complete these minimum requirements can result in termination of membership.
Application Timeline
1. The application for membership will be read for the first time at the next General Business meeting (2nd Monday of the month) after the application is received.
2. Once the application has been received the applicant will be interviewed by the Investigation Committee.
3. The Investigation Committee will make their recommendation to the general membership for acceptance or denial at the General Business meeting following the interview. The recommendation will be based partly on the interview with the prospective candidate.
4. A majority vote of the membership will decide acceptance or denial of the candidate for membership in the Fire Company.
5. If the candidate is accepted, he or she will be added to the active roster at the next Town Board meeting pending a physical, arson and background check.
